General Description of the Job Class

Supervise activities involved in the preservation, development and care of all grounds, drives, walks and parking areas of the Duke University Campuses and designated off-campus properties.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Supervise activities involved in grounds maintenance, landscaping, cleaning and the repairs of streets, walks and parking areas to include the removal of snow and the regularly scheduled and special pick-up of trash and debris; ensure the preparation and readiness of athletic facilities and playing fields for sporting events and physical education classes.

' Plan and schedule work in designated areas to ensure proper staffing, space and material necessary for performance of task.

' Inspect and authorize repairs of tools and equipment.

' Review and evaluate existing modes of operation; modify methods for increased efficiency and cost reduction where applicable.

' Make work assignments; review the work of subordinates; train new personnel.

' Supervise and/or recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, transfers and scheduling time off.

' Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

 

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education:

Work requires the ability to provide instructions and coordinate the work of employees normally equivalent to a partial high school education.

 

Experience:

Work requires 4 years experience in ground maintenance. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
