Responsible for the entry of nursing documentation and patient charges into the surgical information system. Audits records and charges for accuracy. Assist Business Services and Auditing Department with billing issues and performs audits of all records. Identifies hospital charging and nursing documentation issues and relates these to the appropriate department managers.
Reconciles the number of charge sheets received in the OR/Endo daily census
Reviews patient charts for completeness and verifies that all information is accurately documented on the charge sheet
Documents additions and corrects errors to charge sheet according to departmental standards
Communicates with staff for needed documentation for accurate charging and billing
Communicates departmental charging issues to the appropriate department manager
Provides ongoing education for staff to communicate and improve charge capture and documentation
Tracks supply items charges under miscellaneous codes and completes paperwork to establish specific charge codes
Enters appropriate patient charge codes into surgical information system
Educates and orients staff to the charging practices and documentation standards for the department
Provides support to Billing, Patient Accounting, and insurance representatives to assist with billing issues and patient inquires
Maintains an understanding of medical record practices, standards, and regulations
Develop and maintain current written policies, procedures, and guidelines
Education: | BSN Required |
Experience: | Three years of nursing experience is required |
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification: | Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina required. BLS required. |
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: | Knowledge of scope of the registered nurse and surgical technologist Knowledge of and appropriate application of nursing process Knowledge of theory, practice, and procedures Ability to assess nursing documentation for accuracy Knowledge of supplies required for various surgical procedures Able to independently seek our resources and work collaboratively Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Able to use computer and learn new software programs Able to withstand prolonged periods of sitting Able to remain focused and organized Working knowledge and completion of appropriated JCAHO and other regulatory requirements |
The Charge Code Auditor is a representative of Surgical Services management. Position directly impacts revenue capture and must work collaboratively and independently to meet deadlines.
