The User Experience Designer is responsible for applying human centered design principles to create exceptional experiences across health system initiatives. While primarily focused on digital platforms, this person may also take a role in shaping a variety of customer experiences through participation in service design, wayfinding, and other relevant efforts.
The person in this role is responsible for melding creative thinking with business requirements, best practices, and sound user research. This individual???s work should elegantly and effectively address specifically defined problems, while also establishing and adhering to larger frameworks that create consistency across Duke Health. Strong problem solving and collaboration skills are a must.
Specific expectations include conceiving and designing information architectures, user interfaces, and visual design patterns for a variety of audiences and needs.
Guided by market research, testing and customer feedback, and business requirements, conceive of creative yet pragmatic user experiences
Apply research learnings to the creation of journey maps, personas and other documents that help illustrate and communicate current and future state experiences
Translate concepts into wireframes, mockups, prototypes, etc. that demonstrate and help communicate the intended user experience
Collaborate closely with development teams on the implementation of designed experiences; rapidly modify experiences if necessary based on constraints discovered during implementation
Work with team members to develop materials for testing concepts
When appropriate assist in developing health system wide guidelines and frameworks to bring consistency to experiences
Assist in monitoring and reviewing Duke Health platforms and properties for adherence to established frameworks and guidelines
Act as a resource for Duke Health stakeholders and vendors in determining adherence to frameworks and guidelines
Monitor and manage ADA accessibility standards on Duke Health digital properties where appropriate.
Education: | Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in design, human computer interaction (HCI), or related field |
Experience: | 4+ years as a user experience designer, interaction designer or graphic designer |
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification: |

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: | Expert skill level with standard design tools such as Photoshop, Axure and Sketch Be excited about collaborating and communicating closely with teams and other stakeholders via a distributed model to regularly deliver design solutions for approval. Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills Be open to receiving feedback and constructive criticism. Be passionate about all things UX and other areas of design and innovation. Research and showcase knowledge in the industry???s latest trends and technologies. A solid grasp of user-centered design and testing methodologies, subsystems, and usability and accessibility concerns. Ability to iterate your designs and solutions efficiently and intelligently. Ability to clearly and effectively communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions to teams and clients. |
