Serve as a key team member, supporting the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) or the VP Patient Care/CNO of Duke Health, keeping the CHRO focused, organized, informed and on task with key initiatives, expected deliverables and anticipated assignments. Must be able to manage at the strategic and tactical levels, understanding the relationship and breadth of requirements, while ensuring that necessary details are properly attended. Ensures timely flow of information to and from the CHRO's or the VP Patient Care/CNO offices.
Reports directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) or or the VP Patient Care/CNO at DukeHealth and is a key member of the executive office. Specific duties include (but are not limited to) consistently:
Establishing oneself as the primary and credible representative of the office of the CHRO or the VP Patient Care/CNO, both internally and externally.
Understanding the priorities across the portfolio and working with the team across the entities as well as key stakeholders to facilitate the successful achievement of goals.
Representing the senior leader at meetings, both internal and external to the organization
Internal communications - prepare agendas and collect, prepare and distribute briefing materials. Work closely with the leadership and executive management team of DukeHealth, including Duke University Health System (DUHS), Duke School of Medicine (SoM), Duke School of Nursing (SoN), and other enterprise entity leaders.
Remaining knowledgeable of upcoming projects, commitments and deliverables in order to anticipate the necessary needs, tasks, work effort, and resources required to meet/exceed expectations.
Conducting research to prepare briefs, presentations, meeting agendas, conference materials, speeches and documents as well as performing analysis in support of key deliverables.
Leading, enhancing and facilitating key projects and initiatives, ensuring the timely execution and quality of results.
Assisting the leader, team members, and stakeholders with critical thinking for Health System initiatives that impact DukeHealth as a whole. Review operating strategies and key developments to ensure expectations are met.
Meeting frequently with the senior leader to keep him/her abreast of key developments and ensure synchronization of expectations.
Attending internal and external meetings with or on behalf of the senior leader as appropriate to represent the function and/or DukeHealth.
Managing all information with discretion and confidentiality.
Facilitate communication and work closely with leadership and executive management teams within Human Resources.
Ability to research a diverse array of health related topics and distill key messages in preparation for presentations.
Understand organizational policies and procedures necessary to ensure appropriate decision-making protocols are followed.
Demonstrating the courage to challenge the norm, question the direction, and recommend innovative solutions.
Collaborating with administrative support staff to ensure accuracy, coordination and that priorities are aligned.
Performing all duties as assigned.
Education: | Bachelor's Degree in a related field required. Master's in Business Administration, Human Resources, Communications or other related field preferred. Five years experience and a working knowledge of health care and academic medicine would be helpful. |
Experience: | Minimum of 5 years of management experience required in a highly complex, matrixed organization. |

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: | - Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills and strong managerial capabilities. Ability to effectively interact and influence at the most senior levels of the organization and work collaboratively across functions, levels, and departments towards shared objectives. - Superior communications skills - verbal and written, able to accurately simulate and represent the CHRO???s communication style. - Ability to research a diverse arrangement of topics and distill key messages in preparation for presentations, briefs, materials, speeches, etc. - Expert at developing PowerPoint presentations a must; skilled at developing Presi presentations also preferred. - Ability to work cooperatively and strategically in a team environment with all levels of professional, technical, administrative staff and to integrate resources on a timely and organized basis. - Sound management skills, ability to think strategically while balancing several complex agendas. - Strong time management and organizational skills. |
