General Description of the Job Class

The Nursing Course Instructor, Lead is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing courses. This role involves coordinating course activities, ensuring alignment with curriculum standards, and supporting faculty and students to achieve educational goals.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

- Includes responsibilities of Course Instructor Faculty

- Course Planning: Develop and organize course schedules, syllabi, and instructional materials.

- Coordination: Coordinate with faculty, clinical sites, and administrative staff to ensure smooth course delivery.

- Quality Assurance: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of course content and teaching methods, making adjustments as needed. Utilize principles of andragogy.

- Student Support: Provide guidance and support to students, addressing academic and clinical concerns.

- Faculty Support: Assist faculty with course-related issues, including resource allocation and instructional strategies.

- Compliance: Ensure all courses meet accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.

- Professional Development: Stay updated with advancements in nursing education and incorporate best practices into course coordination. Serves on various professional and faculty committees. Advisor to student organizations.

- Perform related work as required.

 

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education:

Master's degree in Nursing required; Doctorate preferred.

 

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of full-time clinical nursing experience, and at least 2 years in an educational or lead faculty role in an accredited nursing program, for a total of five years' experience required. Experience in curriculum development and instructional design, preferred.

 

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

Active, unencumbered RN license in the state of North Carolina. Meets the requirements of the North Carolina State Board of Nursing within 18 months of employment (NCAC 36.0318).

Maintains current BLS certification; skills and knowledge required for the clinical setting where the clinical practicum is conducted. (i.e.: age-specific competencies, glucometer, etc.). Advanced certification in nursing education or specialty areas, preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong teaching abilities, organizational and leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and proficiency in educational technology. Familiarity with accreditation processes and standards, preferred.
