General Description of the Job Class

As a member of the Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHIP) senior leadership team, the Chief Clinician Wellbeing Officer (CCWO) leads the strategy and execution of organizational efforts to advance clinician well-being and professional fulfillment. The CCWO drives a culture of well-being across all DHIP clinical departments by integrating evidence- based practices, assessing organizational culture, partnering with internal stakeholders, and developing targeted programs and resources. This role reports directly to the President of DHIP and serves as a national thought leader, positioning DHIP as a top-tier organization for clinician engagement, retention, and wellness.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Lead the design and implementation of strategic well-being programs for physicians and APPs across DHIP, with a focus on professional fulfillment and burnout reduction.

Build and support a network of well-being champions within departments; assess local needs, advise on action plans, and monitor progress.

Partner with leaders in HR, quality, finance, GME, behavioral health, and informatics to align well-being initiatives with broader DHIP goals.

Serve as an internal and external advocate for well-being, representing DHIP on national platforms and aligning with accreditation requirements.

Monitor organizational culture and professional fulfillment data to identify clinician trends and hot spots and use data to guide decision- making and programs.

Develop and deploy resources to support leader behaviors and individual clinician strategies that promote wellness and resilience.

 

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education:

MD or PhD in a healthcare-related or leadership/organizational psychology field required.

 

Experience:

Minimum of 10 years in a clinical or healthcare leadership role. Minimum of 5 years leading well-being initiatives, with a demonstrated track record of strategic program design and implementation

 

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Deep understanding of drivers of burnout and well-being in healthcare settings.

Experience with organizational culture change and professional fulfillment frameworks.

Strong interpersonal, presentation, and leadership coaching skills.

Ability to analyze and interpret wellness-related data for action.

Collaborative, influential leadership style across multidisciplinary teams.

Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems and clinical practice environments.
