General Description of the Job Class

Design and prepare complete and accurate working plans, charts, scale drawings and revisions for complex projects, integrating skilled architectural/engineering drafting methods and procedures with the operation and application of computer-aided design (CAD) equipment and software

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Design and prepare detailed electronic (CAD) working plans, charts and/or scale drawings for complex projects from observation, measurements, sketches and specifications.

Interface with departmental personnel to obtain details of equipment and materials requirements.

Prepare electronic layouts, charts, detailed scale drawings, and material and equipment requirements from sketches, specifications, and standard layouts provided by customers, consultants, and/or departmental contacts; review and manipulate electronic files received from consultants and departmental contacts.

Make basic computations to determine layout of charts, strength of materials and requirements for structural design.

Revise computer-aided designs and plans to comply with modified specifications made during actual construction.

Provide technical guidance and direction to the drafting staff in the interpretation and implementation of specifications and requirements and the procurement and use of CAD files.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work requires an educational background sufficient to design and modify electronic working plans, charts and scale drawings, normally acquired through an Associate's degree in Design, Architecture, or a related field, with course work in computer-aided design.

Experience

Work requires two years of experience in drafting work to become proficient in the design and preparation of complete and accurate electronic working plans, charts, drawings or revisions for complex projects using computer-aided design equipment and software.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
