General Description of the Job Class

Supervise and participate in the installation, maintenance, modification, overhaul, service and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Supervise and participate in the installation, maintenance and repair of refrigeration and air conditioning systems to ensure that the work performed is in compliance with blueprints, manufacturer specifications, written and/or verbal instruction.

Plan, schedule and assign work to ensure proper distribution of work, adequate staffing and space for efficient performance of duties.

Make material take-off's, submit requisitions, interface with local vendors and contractors as required.

Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions on assigned projects when requested.

Establish and/or assist in establishing preventive maintenance programs for air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment. Provide training and instruction to personnel on activities relating to air conditioning and refrigeration maintenance to ensure an acceptable work performance level. Supervise and/or assist in personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions and scheduling time off.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to high school plus 2 years of technical training in the principles of refrigeration, heating and air handling.

Work requires EPA CFC certification.

Experience

Work requires 2 years of journeyman's experience in the installation, maintenance and/or repair of air conditioning, air handling, chilled water distribution systems and controls working from blueprints, schematics, designs and/or sketches.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
