General Description of the Job Class

Take and transcribe dictation and type medical reports, records, patient procedure documents and miscellaneous correspondence.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Take and transcribe dictation and type reports, records, patient resumes, surgical procedure documents and miscellaneous correspondence from rough drafts, corrected copy, dictated notes or transcribing machine recordings; proofread medical reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Compose and type routine correspondence as required.

Prepare and maintain files, keep records and perform other routine clerical tasks.

Answer telephone, take messages,and provide information of a routine nature.

Make appointments and serve as receptionist as required.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work requires a general education background normally equivalent to a high school education.

Experience

Work requires twelve months of general medical clerical experience sufficient to acquire skills in production typing utilizing medical terminology. A completed medical secretarial program (9 months to 2 years accredited program) may be substituted for the required experience. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Work requires a minimum typing speed of 40 corrected words per minute.
