General Description of the Job Class
Provide clinical massage therapy to patients seeking services at Duke Health. Requires a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, and therapeutic massage techniques, with the ability to assess, treat, and support patients with medical, rehabilitative, or stress related conditions. This role focuses on delivering evidence-based massage therapy within a clinical setting to enhance patient recovery, reduce pain, and improve overall well-being.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Provide safe, appropriate, and effective massage techniques.
Performs health history on clients and update prior to each session; ascertains precautions/contradictions for massage prior to each session.
Educate clients on self-care, posture, stretching, and rehabilitation techniques to support long-term results.
Upholds a safe, clean, and professional environment, adhering to all health and hygiene protocols. Documents all sessions performed according to established guidelines.
Maintains client confidentiality and sensitivity to age and gender related issues during all client interactions; reports any unusual client interactions to supervisor immediately. Responsible for scheduling and maintenance of appointments; assists in collection of fees.
Collaborate with appropriate providers regarding treatment plans when necessary.
Provide massage orientation services, education seminars and markets massage services upon request.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of massage. Current North Carolina Massage License.
Experience
Work requires a minimum of one year experience providing massage services.
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
A current license from the NC State Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Therapist must be comfortable in a direct patient facing communication, treatment and advising of next steps.
Experience working with patients recovering from injury, surgery, or chronic pain.
Knowledge of complementary therapies (e.g. hydrotherapy, cupping, kinesiology taping) is a plus.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Distinguishing Characteristics of this Level
Advanced training in Medical Massage, Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Therapy, Oncology Massage, Lymphatic Massage and/or Scar Tissue Massage.
