General Description of the Job Class

Oversee the identification and reporting of neoplasms, collection of clinical data, coding and entry of medical information into the Tumor Registry database, performance of life-time follow-up to provide cancer incidence, treatment, and outcome information for quality improvement activities. Provide support to administration for planning and marketing programs and research activities. Coordinate registry quality control activities, information requests, quality improvement studies and research projects as requested.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

- Plan, coordinate and administer activities associated with Cancer Committee - coordinate quarterly meetings; record info relevant to accreditation; follow through on Committee recommendations; prep for ACSC accreditation survey; ensure Cancer Registry activities are within policy; maintain proficiency in coding, ADCC and Collaborative Staging, Multiple Primary Rules and FORDS.

- Develop and implement collaborative teams/events - manage Cancer Registry Department in compliance with government standards; establish working relationships with physicians, ancillary departments, finance, administration, etc.

- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness - ensure timely, accurate and complete data is incorporated within the database.

- Reporting functions - design reports to be utilized for program planning, development and end-result studies; respond to data requests; coordinate physician studies for Annual Report; submit monthly productivity reports to Director of Oncology Services.

- Liaison with other programs at Duke to coordinate business - interface with other hospital departments to ensure cancer-related information is available; coordinate physical quality reviews of the registry; develop/implement departmental policies ensuring all processes are accurate.

- Budget - assist in developing budget and manage monthly.

- Analysis - supervise data submissions and reports as required to the State Central Registry and the National Cancer Database; participate in State/National cancer-related studies as requested.

- Support/oversight - provide management guidance, orientation, on the job training and/or retraining to ensure operational efficiency; supervise daily workflow.

- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Experience

Three years of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events (or equivalent education/experience).

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Oncology Data Specialist Certification required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Data coding, Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology ACoS-FORDS coding ICDO coding, Cancer Staging (AJCC, Collaborative and SEER Staging) Quality assurance background Working knowledge of Windows-based software Data entry and verification (quality control) Excellent organizational skills with good follow through. Excellent investigative/analytic skills with detail orientation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
