General Description of the Job Class

Perform a variety of specialized, complex activities in the coordination of Human Resources (HR) for a large department. Strong emphasis on proactive problem resolution and departmental communications.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Plan, coordinate, and participate in HR related programs and activities.

Investigate, document, and resolve HR problems and issues.

Serve as a primary contact for routine HR-related inquiries from managers and staff. Research and respond to issues. Escalate more complex inquiries to the appropriate resource.

Interpret Duke HR policies and procedures, entity procedures and applicable laws. Consult with managers, providing guidance and education on appropriate compliance.

Coordinate the recording and maintenance of HR and Payroll data, and the generation and distribution of related reports and information (HR metrics, data requests, etc.). Conduct preliminary analyses of data, setting forth progress and adverse trends. Provide input into any recommendations or conclusions.

Review all personnel forms for completeness, accuracy, timing, and conformity to budget and policy guidelines.

Assist in the preparation and distribution of communications to managers, staff and job candidates (offer letters, publications, education materials, etc.).

Maintain liaison with HR representatives, Payroll representatives and others across Duke as necessary to obtain and provide information.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work requires knowledge of basic communications, research and mathematical principles normally acquired through a high school education.

Experience

Work requires the ability to review, maintain, research, and report on human resource and payroll information/activities generally acquired through five years of related experience.
