General Description of the Job Class

Assist with the operation and perform specialized technical duties in the F. G. Hall Environmental Chamber Laboratory to ensure safe and efficient operation of hypobaric and hyperbaric chamber equipment and associated physical support systems.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Assist with the operation of hyperbaric and hypobaric chambers, associated equipment and systems by monitoring communications, pressure controls, compressed gas sources, data collection, atmosphere conditioning, breathing gas, fire safety systems and others ensuring safety and effective operations. Perform hyperbaric and hypobaric chamber maintenance and research procedures under normal and varied conditions of pressure and atmospheric gas compositions.

Operate and ensure maintenance of high pressure gas compressors and associated gas delivery, storage and control systems; repair and overhaul gas valves and regulators and modify pressure hull penetrations; operate high pressure gas mixing station and install and modify specialty gas piping ensuring compliance with oxygen and breathing gas system standards.

Perform maintenance and repairs on hyperbaric and hypobaric chamber equipment and instruments such as but not limited to making adjustments and calibrations, corrosion removal, clearing, soldering, silver brazing and welding to ensure the safe operation of the equipment.

Conduct functional inspections and support preventative maintenance programs of chambers to ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment and associated physical support systems; replace parts such as filters, chemical absorbents and lubricants on predetermined maintenance schedule; report potential hazards to appropriate authority and prepare and maintain related records.

Maintain adequate inventory of materials, supplies and equipment. Provide technical assistance and instruction to research personnel and laboratory staff in the operation and maintenance of the chambers and associated equipment.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Associate's in science, engineering, or related field and 3 years of hyperbaric experience

OR

2 years of military or commercial training and 3 years of hyperbaric experience

OR

5 years of experience in hyperbaric

Experience

Specified above.
