General Description of the Job Class

Coordinate and participate in a variety of complex duties involved in Assisted Reproduction to include, but not limited to performing semen testing, semen processing for insemination, oocyte retrievals, oocyte insemination, embryo culture, embryo intra-uterine transfer, cryopreservation/warming of gametes/embryos and micromanipulation including ICSI and biopsy. Perform fertilization assessment, embryo quality and development assessment and maintain cultures under controlled conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Coordinate and participate in a variety of complex duties involved in Assisted Reproduction to include, but not limited to performing semen testing, semen processing for insemination, oocyte retrievals, oocyte insemination, embryo culture, embryo intra-uterine transfer, cryopreservation/warming of gametes/embryos and micromanipulation including ICSI and biopsy. Perform fertilization assessment, embryo quality and development assessment and maintain cultures under controlled conditions.

Maintain appropriate storage and billing protocols for frozen specimens

Manage incoming and outgoing shipments of gametes/embryos

Monitor quality control testing to ensure reliability of testing procedures; monitor functioning and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment; prepare applicable records summarizing results and efforts to the laboratory director.

Adhere to strict proficiency testing standards.

Must meet and maintain success above competency thresholds set by laboratory director

Strict adherence to protocols to ensure gamete/embryo traceability

Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Serve as a liaison between the laboratory and physicians and related clinic personnel.

Deliver clinical updates and education to patients as necessary

Maintain inventory of materials, supplies and equipment; reorder as required. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Ensure accuracy of patient embryology and andrology records via BabySentry (Fertility Specific EMR), RI Witness (Fertility Specific Electronic Witnessing) and EPIC.

Must ensure laboratory remains compliant to standards set by regulatory agencies (SART/CDC, CAP, CLIA, FDA, JCAHO)

Participate in Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance initiatives as set forth by the Quality Management plan.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work requires a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Zoology, Biochemistry or other related scientific field.

Experience

Requires 2 years of clinical/research experience in a reproductive lab and/or andrology lab.
