General Description of the Job Class

Coordinate emergency ground transportation program, vehicle fleet maintenance and communications equipment in support of emergency medical services for Duke Life Flight/Life Care.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Coordination the maintenance of all equipment related to communications and the ground vehicle support of the transport program including, but not limited to, switchboard, radio console, weather radar system, computer database, mapping systems and Life Care vehicle fleet. Establish cost effective preventive and unscheduled maintenance of equipment; establish schedule for routine inspections of satellite operations to check equipment, monitor status of physical facilities and meet with vendors, clinical managers and local EMS as needed. Collaborate with communications center and clinical managers to ensure the development, implementation and enforcement of policies and procedures related to the safety of operations and operating efficiencies required of equipment.

Train dispatchers, EMS drivers and Life Flight nursing staff in use of communications equipment and vehicle safety; work collaboratively with program educator to develop and refine appropriate training curriculum specific to skills required for driving and maintaining Life Care vehicles. Maintain current knowledge of computer, weather, radio communications systems and other technical systems supporting the communications center and Life Care vehicle fleet.

Maintain current knowledge of EMS rules, regulations and standards related to air and ground transport medical systems as appropriate.

Assist in the development and monitoring of expense and capital budgets as requested.

Participate in Life Flight/Life Care public relations and educational outreach programs as directed.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to hiring, performance appraisal, promotions and disciplinary actions; orient and train new personnel. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work requires the ability to operate radio/console equipment and transmit information generally acquired through a high school education.

North Carolina EMT certification is required.

Experience

Work requires five years experience in emergency medical services (EMS), hospital-based emergency operations or related setting including supervisory experience.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
