General Description of the Job Class

Repair and initiate medical linear accelerators, simulators, and other equipment utilized in the department. Fabricate devices for patient treatment. Assist in general electronic and mechanical equipment repair and maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Provide front-line troubleshooting, repair and post-repair testing of medical linear accelerators and other x-ray equipment.

Maintain, repair and modify computer-controlled equipment used in hypothermia treatment and research, including ultrasound transducers and microwave generators and applicators.

Schedule and coordinate periodic maintenance and repair with vendor personnel as needed and assist vendor personnel as appropriate. Participate in the development of quality assurance tools and procedures. Assist with assigned quality assurance tasks.

Keep and maintain records of equipment maintenance and operations to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and outside licensing and accrediting agency regulations.

Comply with all established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.

Make recommendations concerning the purchase of a wide variety of mechanical and electronic components.

Teach clinical and technical staff basic trouble-shooting and repair.

Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work requires knowledge of the principles of engineering and related natural sciences generally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree program in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering or physics. or

an Associate degree and a minimum of 2 years related experience working with linear accelerators.

Experience

Work requires 2 years related experience working with the maintenance and repair of microwave equipment, accelerator and related radiologic equipment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have competence in repair of mechanical, electromechanical, electronic, and/or computer medical technology to diagnose and repair devices and systems. Ability to learn equipment maintenance and repair procedures from courses, service engineer representatives, and training materials. Ability to perform during emergency or stressful situations. Must be available evenings and weekends as needed.
