General Description of the Job Class

Exercise management responsibility directly over functions of non-clinical hospital aspects and over functions that apply uniformly across Radiology relating to clinical aspect of hospital funded portion ensuring efficient services designed to meet the needs of patients, personnel, medical staff and students.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Direct and facilitate establishment and implementation of plans, operations, and programs in Radiology as assigned ensuring efficient and professional services designed to meet the needs of patients and personnel in coordination with the Radiology Department Business Manager as needed. Provide administrative direction to staff management by applying specialized and technical knowledge in the implementation and execution of the planned programs for the department of Radiology. This includes but not limited to establishment and maintaining standards for procedures, business plans for capital acquisitions, SAP rollout of functions, as well as procurement, contracting and other initiatives. Coordinate the determination of expense requirements (based on flexible budget of procedures for revenue) of all expense centers within Radiology; responsible for budgetary recommendations, monitoring, verifying and reconciliation for expenditures of funds.

Coordinate through accountable management personnel and outside departments/areas the establishment of major schedules, task assignments and allocation of manpower and equipment to ensure conformance with specified objectives and policies for non-clinical aspect of Radiology; work and facilitate with the Radiology faculty and clinical department administration for the clinical aspects for same.

Coordinate activities of non-clinical and clinical aspects within Radiology with Assistant Operating Officers and Administrative Directors over hospital service lines and the PDC that interact with Radiology to ensure the efficient, coordinated delivery of services.

Assist the Associate Operating Officer of Duke Hospital in such duties as may be assigned or delegated including staffing analyses and recommendations regarding policies and procedures.

Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions as indicated or requested.

Manage and responsible for various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules within the hospital funded portion of Radiology. Manage and responsible for payroll of clinical side as well.

Serve as a preceptor and lecturer for managers within Radiology and for those hospital administration graduate students as needed or requested.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
