General Description of the Job Class

This position has responsibility for directing and managing all areas of Diagnostic Services in DUHS and its affiliated facilities. The position will focus on Radiology/Imaging Services and Clinical Labs. The position will jointly report to Vice President- Diagnostic Services / CIO and Vice President - Acute Care. Provides service coordination with VP - Ambulatory.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Radiology: The Radiology/Imaging Services Group provides noninvasive and invasive diagnostic/therapeutic Radiology services on inpatients and outpatients for the prevention, detection and treatment of disease. Services are provided in Duke University Hospital, Durham Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital and DUAP facilities. These services may also include free standing ambulatory locations. This position will supervise: (a) The Director of Radiology DUH, (b) The Director of Radiology DRH, and (c) The Manager/Director of Radiology, DR, in collaboration with entity operations leadership. This position will interact with physicians, patients, visitors, students, and all members of the patient care team, clinical and non- clinical hospital staff

Clinical Labs: While initial responsibilities will focus on radiology, this position will be ultimately be responsible for supervising Clinical labs across DUHS.

Establish and define departmental goals and objectives to meet service demands.

Plan, implement and evaluate programs to meet defined goals.

Supervise the preparation of individual entity budgets for Radiology, present them to DUHS

Administration for approval and monitor budgets and expenses to control or justify variances.

Establish departmental policies and procedures which are consistent with Duke University Health System (DUHS) policies and procedures and which promote organized and efficient operation of Diagnostic Services.

Maintain standards of practice in cooperation with the VP Medical Affairs and the Hospitals, and ensure that the accreditation standards of JCAHO and other accrediting agencies are met.

Review and approve all new personnel in conformance to DUHS policies and procedures.

Review and approve all departmental supply and equipment expenditures.

Participate in Hospitals' management functions.

Prepare administrative and operational reports as requested by DUHS Administration.

Monitor effectiveness of departmental programs and incorporate new technology, procedures and program ideas to maintain state-of-the-art practice.

Evaluate new technology for patient care. Develop specifications for medical equipment acquisition in conjunction with Radiology needs.

Coordinate IT systems deployment and management with Duke Health Technology Solutions.

Develop and implement marketing plans for Diagnostic Services and coordinates marketing activities with Planning and Marketing as well as individual Hospital departments and physicians.

Represent Diagnostic Services on committees, maintain departmental records, attend appropriate clinical faculty and administrative meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.

Performs related duties as required.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Master's Degree in a health care profession or management

Experience

Requires recent experience in managing Imaging services (Radiology) and/or Clinical labs. At least 7 years in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
