General Description of the Job Class

The Associate Director, Web Strategy, will oversee and manage the production of content for all of the Web sites that Marketing and Creative Services is responsible for. This includes the flagship patient site DukeHealth.org, along with DukeMedicine.org, DukeRaleighHospital.org, DurhamRegional.org, and a growing number of sites in the School of Medicine.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Responsibilities include ensuring that Web content is of high quality across the board, managing a team of Web editors, creating and following a content strategy, leveraging social media, and keeping abreast of the latest in Web content best practices. This position works closely with a team of Web writers, designers, and programmers, as well as with clients throughout Duke Medicine, and reports to the Director of Web Strategy.

Duties:

Take on the director???s duties in his absence, including attending meetings and managing projects

Direct and manage the web editorial team to create and maintain content across all of the Web sites

Independently manage projects as assigned, coordinating team members and vendors, including writing, design, and programmers

Manage and maintain a pool of contract writers to supplement the staff writers on a project basis, including scouting, interviewing, contract creation, and project management

Manage vendors and contractors in the production of multimedia as needed

Build expertise in usability and user testing, and ensure work performed by the team meets best practices in those areas

Create and maintain presences in social media outlets and create guidelines and strategy that will aid groups at Duke Medicine who wish to embark on those activities

Work with departmental managers and clinical leaders to ensure that site content meets organizational marketing and communications objectives.

Develop editorial policies and procedures and ensure a consistent editorial style.

Ensure user feedback is monitored and solicited so that site content and strategies may be adjusted to better serve audiences

Work with marketing team to synchronize site activities with active marketing campaigns

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

BA/BS in Journalism or related field required

Experience

Minimum of four years of experience in managing editorial content for the Web required. Must have top-notch Web writing and copyediting skills. Must have strong computer and Web skills, including experience with basic HTML formatting, enterprise content management systems, Web usability, content strategy, and social media. Background in packaging health- or science-related information for a consumer audience or content expertise in health and/or user interface design expertise preferred. Strong Web writing and editorial skills, organizational skills, management ability, and experience with all of the latest Web communication technologies.
