General Description of the Job Class

Administer and coordinate technical activities in the Department of Radiology or Radiation Oncology.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Administer and coordinate technical activities involved in the installation, operation and maintenance in a specialty area, including but not limited to Diagnostic X-ray equipment, CT, MR, Ultrasound, Vascular Interventional, Nuclear Medicine and PET along with related equipment in the Department of Radiology; or linear accelerators, CT and MR scanners and related software and hardware in the Department of Radiation Oncology.

Assist in the development and the implementation of departmental policy and procedure on specific operating problems.

May plan, schedule, coordinate and lead software and hardware installation and upgrades, interfacing with vendors, IT, Radiation Physics, Clinical Engineering, Radiation Therapists, Radiation Oncologists and Departmental Leadership.

May plan and schedule work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.

Compile and prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions, leading to continual improvement in safety, machine up-time, and operational efficiency.

Assist in determining fiscal requirements and preparing budgetary recommendations for the section.

Conduct meetings with subordinates to ensure compliance with established practices, to implement new policies and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.

Supervise and coordinate the work of designated employees to maintain conformance with specified operational standards. Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work requires successful completion of an approved Radiology Technologist training program OR approved Radiation Therapy Program OR Bachelor's degree in engineering or physics.

Experience

Five years of progressively responsible experience as a Radiologic Technologist and/or Imaging equivalent (MR, CT, Ultrasound, etc.), Radiation Therapist, Radiation Physicist or Clinical Engineer and at least 3 of those must be in a supervisory capacity in a hospital or clinical setting.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) registry if Radiology Technologist/Radiation Therapy program completed or Association of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB).

Bachelor's degree in engineering or physics will qualify in lieu of certification.
