General Description of the Job Class

Manage and coordinate promotional and advertising activities for Duke University Health System; implement consumer marketing and communications for DUHS and its operating units.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Plan, develop, manage, analyze and measure strategic marketing programs designed to support the success of clinical programs and services within Duke University Health System.

Identify market research needs in order to construct evidence-based marketing plans; working with market research lead to define, construct and implement market research activities critical to optimal plan development.

Implement consumer marketing and communications for DUHS. Work with business partners to define content of advertising and promotional messages and communicate DUHS's goals and objectives via brand management. Work with senior management on strategic initiatives relative to consumer communications and provide tactical support for those directives.

Provide strategic recommendations related to potential market sponsorships that are based on the maximization of sponsorship/marketing/brand investments.

Where applicable, provide direction to marketing communications staff related to program development and implementation.

Manage and coordinate vendors of advertising and promotion services.

Proactively seek to apply marketing practices, planning and tactical development to advance the success of internal, organizational business objectives.

Write key messages, value propositions, plan summaries, results summaries, and other marketing communications materials that are centeral to marketing operations.

Serve as Project Manager for events, collateral production, and advertising development for the institution; selects external vendors and resources of execution of creative or productions projects.

Consult with clients regarding projects to identify needs, objectives and design approaches; develop schedules and budgets as required for each project. Develop and maintain professional contacts and affiliations with media, production and related external resources to complete projects effectively and to facilitate and promote the dissemination of news and publicity about Duke University Health System.

Develop and maintain working relationships with marketing managers, administrators and clinical staff to implement service line business development objectives. Prepare and monitor budgets for institutional marketing to consumers and referring physicians and service line advertising and promotional activities; recommend the most appropriate and cost-effective advertising and promotional media.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, marketing, communications or a related field is required.

Experience

Five years of directly related experience is required.

Experienced in the development, execution and measurement of multi- dimensional strategic marketing initiatives. Key experience includes working with all levels of organizational leadership in the adoption of plans and tactics, and making plan course corrections as needed based on emerging information or market evolution. Experience with emerging marketing tools (ie. social media and customer relationship marketing) strongly preferred.
