General Description of the Job Class

This position is responsible for monitoring and enhancing the financial revenue performance and cost accounting of all Duke University Health System (DUHS) components and support the overall direction of internal reporting in Reimbursement and Revenue Accounting. This position will work across all DUHS entities to provide comprehensive financial reporting, financial accounting, financial analysis, and monitoring related to accounts receivables and revenue valuations, and to support other departmental initiatives. Other responsibilities will include Cost Accounting and the oversight of the Contract Management function.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Develop revenue deductions budgets at entity and service line levels.

Develop of annual pricing parameters and work with entity finance and PRMO to coordinate development of line-item pricing.

Complete balance sheet and income statement models for monthly reserves and deductions entries for all entities.

Complete analysis of accounts receivables and net revenue to support monthly close activities.

Coordinate with PRMO and General Accounting to complete additional revenue cycle analysis.

Coordinate with PRMO and General Accounting to complete audit PBCs for interim and year-end external audit.

Provide ad-hoc financial analysis as required by the Health System.

Provide oversight to contract management initiatives and revenue modeling throughout the Health System.

Contribute to development of internal and external reports and other departmental requirements, as needed.

Ensure adherence to all third party reporting and compliance requirements.

Participate in departmental Policy and Procedure documentation initiatives.

Direct Contract Management function for the maximization of collections, and to provide outside oversight to the performance of various PRMO functions.

Develop, implement and manage cost accounting systems and procedures across Duke University Health System. Coordinate cost accounting activities with Perfromance Services, Reimbursement, and Financial Planning and Analysis; maintain Eclipsys cost accounting system; establish and maintain cost standards, including labor and non-labor, in coordination with Performance Services.

Direct departmental personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance management, corrective action, etc.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business. Advance degrees or credentials are desirable.

Experience

Requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant accounting experience in reimbursement and revenue accounting. Experience in managed care is considered a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong PC skills in applications such as Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint are important, and experience with cost report software is essential.

Strong communication skills and demonstrated attention to details and accuracy are required.
