General Description of the Job Class

Oversees and directs day-to-day operations for Pharmacy services, both inpatient and outpatient services.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Monitor effectiveness of management practices and productivity indicators using data such as turnover rates, absenteeism, budget variance, patient, MD, and staff satisfaction surveys.

Assure the ongoing development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.

Implement and maintains quality control program as appropriate.

Assess and communicate recommendations for utilization of space, space needs, equipment, personnel and other resources as needed to meet patient needs.

Prepare and submit reports as necessary to any requiring department (primarily Administration and Human Resources) in an accurate and timely manner.

Serve as liaison with all external parties and institutions, including public, governmental, and DUHS entities.

Oversee and manage all on-site inspections, assisting inspectors and surveyors in the performance of their duties.

Provide reports as required in follow-up to surveys, inspections and audits.

Serves on all relevant hospital and DUHS committees as required and requested.

Interview and evaluate the qualifications and competence of staff and design an orientation that integrates employees needs, as well as, hospital and department requirements. Ensures the completion of documentation for orientation requirements.

Maintain strict control over distribution and usage of controlled substances. Appropriate response is made when discrepancies occur.

Responsible for the procurement, inventory control, distribution and storage of all medications. Expiring drugs are removed from general distribution. Refrigeration is sufficient to meet the needs of hospital patients. Provide drug information and ensures that adequate drug references are available in the Pharmacy. Pharmacy staff is always available to answer questions as needed.

Establish policy and procedures for drug recalls, ensures they are followed in a timely manner.

Complete annual safety training (Healthstream) in a timely manner.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Current registration as a registered pharmacist in North Carolina.Advanced degree in pharmacy and five years of successful experience as a manager or assistant manager in a Hospital pharmacy of comparable size; or graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy with at least five years of successful experience as a manager or assistant manager in a hospital pharmacy of comparable size.
