General Description of the Job Class

The Director of Patient Revenue Management is responsible for the direction and oversight of all departmental related functions within the PRMO. Additionally, the Director of Patient Revenue Management is responsible for ensuring that all access functions are coordinated with the other revenue management functions to meet customer requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Ensure staff members are adequately trained and are competent to perform job tasks. Take leadership role in any technology implementations affecting department. Assist in identification of new technologies that will improve departmental operations. Identify and communicate overall strategy for departmental improvement. Develop departmental strategies to meet PRMO cash projection formulas, reduce days in accounts receivable, and reduce denials. Maintain full knowledge of departmental operations and act as resident expert on issues affecting department. Ensure policies and procedures for department are updated and executed. Ensure departmental internal controls are established and routinely tested. Ensure compliance with state and federal law, compliance plans, HIPAA, JCAHO guidelines. Actively manage any vendor relationships. Develop trending tools and communication plan for departmental staff related to department customer service measures for their primary and secondary customers. Incorporate measurable customer service standards as part of every employee's expected job results. Identify specific projects or actions that will improve customer service. Effectively define for staff their primary and secondary customers. Manage departmental budget. Establish and maintain accountability controls for supplies, inventory and computers at the department level. Communicate budget results to management staff and train them to assist in budget management. Monitor initial salary offers to ensure internal equity and that offers are in within range and budgetary means. Evaluate any requests for salary adjustments within overall context of budget. Monitor cost and utilization of any vendor relationships assigned to department cost center. Develop and promote PRMO strategic vision, mission, and purpose while emphasizing teamwork and results. Support organizational diversity and equal treatment for all employees. Create and foster a department culture that provides a satisfying and enriching environment in which staff can be developed and retained. Support the PRMO/PDC Work Culture Initiative to improve reward and recognition programs. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Bachelors degree required. Masters degree preferred

Experience

Eight years of progressive management and/or consulting experience in a healthcare environment is required, of which 5 of those years should be in management of people of projects.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Patient access or patient accounting certifications preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Technical: Solid understanding of all departmental related functions. General understanding of all revenue cycle functions and interrelationships. Experience in budgeting. Experience in process improvement Non-Technical: Strong leadership presence and skills. Proven capabilities in building and leading teams. Ability to work with others in a cooperative, collaborative manner. Strong written and oral communication skills.
