General Description of the Job Class

Assists the Director of Radiology in managing, planning, and organizing activities in Diagnostic and Supportive sections of Radiology Services, including oversight and direction of Outpatient Radiology Center.

Operational Management

1. Monitors assigned functions through supervision of key staff.

2. Directs, assists and resolves problems encountered by staff.

3. Assists Director of Radiology with assigned duties.

4. Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel, evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions. Hires, trains and directs the work of Radiology staff.

5. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Responsible for interpretation, dissemination and enforcement of policies.

6. Directs the maintenance of department facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficient, safe and effective services for patients, physicians, and staff.

7. Performs the duties of Radiologic Technologist or Radiation Therapy Technologist as needed.

8. Prepares written documentation and reports as required.

9. Analyzes and communicates information to develop and support management decisions.

10. Represents Radiology services to external and internal audiences through the application of community relations and marketing activities. 11. Develops and fosters collaboration among clinical departments and affiliated services to ensure an integrated and coordinated approach to providing Radiology services.

12. Functions as liaison among Duke Raleigh Hospital, DR medical community, Duke University Health System, and the general public.

13. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Financial Performance

1. Works with all levels of the DHRH system to reduce costs, enhance revenues, and achieve effective use of Radiology services.

2. Develops budget and staffing model for Radiology Department.

3. Markets and promotes Radiology Services to referring physicians.

4. For both operating and capital budgets, oversees and manages the fiscal requirements from assigned departments and review budget recommendations.

Strategic Planning

1. Assists in developing new clinical programs and business strategies, and fosters expansion of existing clinical programs to enhance market share and improve operational performance.

2. Leads and supports key committees pertaining to Radiology services as needed.

3. Communicates key information to Radiology service stakeholders with respect to managed care, marketplace needs, competitive environment, cost management, and customer-focused programs.

4. Operationalizes decisions that are made as it relates to strategic and business planning activities.

5. Assists in ensuring the coordination of planning activities with various health system parties, including DUH, Clinical Service Units, DUAP, and Network Services.

Quality Improvement and Regulatory Compliance

1. Develops and implements P.I. plan for Radiology Services.

2. Ensures delivery of quality services. Acts as an educational resource, and provide consultation to medical, nursing and administrative staff.

3. Enhance professional growth and development of department staff through participation in educational programs, current literature, in- service meetings and workshops.

4. Ensures compliance with all standards of care for Radiology as deemed by regulatory agencies.

5. Responsible for implementing and enforcing patient and physician satisfaction service standards.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

AART Registry

Experience

Two-to-five years Radiology Technologist experience including three years in supervisory capacity in a hospital setting. Coordinate technical activities associated with the operation of a variety of hospital imaging procedures.
