General Description of the Job Class

Direct administrative and clinical operations within the Department of Nutrition Services, including directing the activities of all departmental staff and services.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Plan, direct and coordinate activities of the Nutritional Services department within Duke Hospital.

Determine department's resource needs; prepare and oversee departmental operational and capital budgets and provide monthly variance reports to Senior Associate Chief Operating Officer, including developing and implementing methods and systems for improving operational efficiency and controlling expenses.

Direct department personnel and perform personnel actions including hiring, performance management, staff deployment and corrective action.

Develop and implement new programs and/or services according to the organization's priorities, through the balanced scorecard.

Oversee compilation, preparation and distribution of appropriate reports and analyses setting forth trends, and conclusions and appropriate recommendations.

Oversee department's performance improvement activities in accordance with hospital Performance Improvement Plan, JCAHO and other regulatory agency requirements.

Maintain open communications with representatives of the hospital, medical center and health system to ensure that services meet required standards and that the hospital's policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed.

Chair the P&T Nutrition Subcommittee.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Master's degree in dietetics/nutrition or other health-care related field required.

Experience

Six years of experience in clinical nutrition, including at least one year of management experience.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) registry, and licensure.

Certified nutrition support dietitian preferred.
