General Description of the Job Class

Directs, manages and coordinates clinic service activities and programs within as??signed area of Rehabilitative Services.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Directs, manages, and coordinates clinic service activities and programs to include determining extent and nature of physical, occupational, speech, recreation therapy services needed, identifying methods and resources for implementing those services, and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of the clinic service delivery system within assigned area. Develops control and accountability procedures to monitor and evaluate service activities. Plans and develops staff in-service and continuing education opportunities; plans orientation for new personnel. Plans and schedules work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assign??ments and adequate manning, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties. Prepares reports setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recom??mendations or conclusions. Plans and develops work procedures, clinic service policies and personnel policies specific to the departmental operation. Plans and develops work procedures, clinic service policies and personnel policies specific to the departmental operation. Plans, implements and coordinates academic and clini??cal education experiences for students. Recommends various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions and vacation schedules. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy

Experience

Three years of clinical experience as a Physical Therapist; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Licensed by the State of North Carolina as a Physical Therapist.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Extensive knowledge of various areas of therapy principles, techniques, methods, and modalities and of their proper application specific to one or more of the identified impact areas. Ability to properly apply physical therapy principles and priorities in the rehabilitation of patients. Ability to instruct and supervise subordinate staff members, students, and other hospital personnel in physical therapy methods and techniques. Ability to teach physical therapy treatments to patients and patients' families. Ability to research and evaluate new techniques and developments and make reports as necessary. Ability to prepare and evaluate patient treatment histories. Ability to coordinate and supervise physical therapy students as part of a regional clinical education program. Ability to work effectively with patients, patients' families, physicians, nurses, physical therapy staff and other health care personnel.
