General Description of the Job Class

In compliance with Duke HomeCare & Hospice philosophy, goals, policies, mission, and vision, the Director of Non-Clinical Services is responsible for the operational effectiveness and efficiency of systems supporting DHCH. This position plays a pivotal role in the strategic direction, goal setting and performance management of the areas of responsibility for non-clinical services. This position provides daily operation oversight, management and leadership of non-clinical support staff.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Identify opportunities to improve the financial and operational performance of DHCH by working collaboratively with senior leadership.

Directs guides and manages staff to meet or exceed the global organizational goals. Analyze and develop proposals to resolve key operational challenges such as improvements in service, access, capacity and financial performance.

Link assigned business units??? activities to individual program, DHCH- wide, and DUHS operational priorities.

Develop and coordinate management information systems and computer resources to allow for efficient operations. Perform a variety of duties involved in the organization???s documentation and compilation of data associated with DHCH customers.

Maintain productive and open vertical and horizontal lines of communication both internally, within the health system, and with external customers. Routinely interface with hospital executive and medical leadership, peers and subordinates in order to optimize DHCH resources.

Oversee the prospective monitoring of internal and external sources to project trends and opportunities potentially affecting key lines of business and non-patient revenue for DHCH.

Lead the planning process for DHCH programs, in collaboration with DHCH senior executive team, operations and physician leadership, to develop key business strategies, strategic plans and annual operating plans to support the successful attainment of organizational goals. Update plans as needed and monitor and report on progress.

In collaboration with DHCH and Health system resources, establish and monitor reasonable productivity targets for staff. Hire and maintain appropriate staffing ratios consistent with the needs of the organization to support operational departments and within budgetary parameters.

Participate in senior executive leadership activities such as committees, conferences, publishing, teaching and research.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Bachelor of Science Degree is required. A MHA or MBA strongly preferred.

Experience

A minimum of five years of management/supervisory experience in health care setting. Experience and strong knowledge base in homecare industry, as well as good organizational and time management skills.

A master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Health Administration, or Public Policy may be substituted for two years??? experience.
