General Description of the Job Class

The Nursing Information System Specialist III has expert knowledge of a specific clinical discipline and clinical information systems as well as a significant understanding of other IT disciplines. The NISS III incorporates the organization's strategic objectives in the management and evaluation of the organization's clinical information systems. The NISS III has a broad knowledge of the IT market and uses this knowledge to teach others.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Integrate, manage, and plan resources to achieve strategic goals via the management of clinical information systems. Manage the design, acquisition, implementation and evaluation of clinical information systems. Project resources required for system implementation and support. Assist in negotiations. Provide consultative services to customers and application and development teams as to workflow processes and technological solutions. Develop and implement educational strategies to promote understanding of the information system life cycle. Make oral and written presentations to organizational leadership. Identify and resources topics to enhance the knowledge and skill base of the clinical information team. Direct and coordinate complex projects with minimal guidance. Prepare cost analysis and engage internal and external resources. Act as resource to C/NISS Level II. Approve system, operational and department documentation.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

BSN required along with coursework in mathematics, computer science or a computer-related field.

Experience

Work requires five years of clinical nursing experience and five years of progressively responsible information system administration experience which includes leadership of a development team implementing a major information system, and some experience in a supervisory capacity.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina required. BLS required.
