General Description of the Job Class

The incumbent is responsible for the overall direction of the Quality Management, Environmental and Employee Safety, Licensure/Accreditation and Performance Improvement Programs for DUHS Clinical Laboratories. As a member of the senior management team of DUHS Clinical Laboratories, the Director - Quality Management Systems is a vital element of the management structure within clinical laboratories and coordinates with DUHS corporate service leaders in similar areas. The incumbent is responsible for the direction and control of Quality Systems for clinical laboratories and for the communication to and education of staff members in the topic areas of responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Direct the development of Programs/Processes related to Quality Management, Environmental & Employee Safety, Licensure & Accreditation and Performance Improvement.

Control all elements of areas of responsibility by developing policy/procedure, monitoring performance, developing/reviewing metrics, assessing/prioritizing risk, conducting mock inspections and reporting results of same to senior management.

Communicate to and Educates staff re knowledge/information necessary to ensure that Quality, Safety, Licensure/Accreditation and Performance Improvement are actively pursued by aware staff.

Link to internal and external resources (Accreditation & Patient Safety, Risk Management, OESO, DUHS Clinical Laboratories CE Coordinator, ASQ, CDC, CAP, JCAHO, ASHI, AABB, FACT and others) to maintain professional knowledge base.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Masters Degree In Health Care Administration, Business or Clinical Laboratory Science.

Experience

Five or more years of relevant experience.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Certification by American Society of Quality preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

PC - Windows XP, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email

AdvancedStatistical Tools - e.g. JMP or Minitab software for LEAN/SixSigma use
