General Description of the Job Class

This position has responsibility for directing and managing certain aspects of the Clinical Engineering group, which is responsible for ensuring that patient care instrumentation used throughout the Duke University Health System (DUHS) is safe and effective. This includes aspects of acquisition, maintenance, and repair of the equipment. The Clinical Engineering group works with the clinical staff to write specifications for new equipment and to evaluate possible service contracts. Also coordinates preventive maintenance and repairs of outside service personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Provide direction to certain teams and functions. These may include regulatory affairs or work teams.

Collaborate with clinical representatives to provide the highest level of patient safety.

Ensure that the accreditation standards of JCAHO and other accrediting agencies are met.

Ensure departmental policies and procedures are followed.

Provide equipment replacement and other project management as assigned.

Direct productivity and resource allocation.

Evaluate and assist in acquiring new technology for patient care.

Assist in the management of the computerized maintenance management system software.

Ensure the timely completion and documentation of all repair activities.

Maintain stock of repair parts to ensure rapid repair of defective equipment.

Ensure timely completion of preventive maintenance.

Represent Clinical Engineering at meetings as assigned.

Instruct hospital personnel on the safety; proper operation and maintenance of patient care instruments.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work generally requires a minimum eduqcation acquired thrugh the completion of an Associates degree in clinical/biomedical engineering or equivalent. Prefer a Bachelors degree in clinical/biomedical engineering or equivalent

Experience

Work requires minimum of three years of clinical/biomedical technology experiences including management and leadership experience.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong customer services skills.

Able to facilitate the team approach to service.
