General Description of the Job Class

The Administrative Director of the Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO) is responsible for the direction and oversight of multiple departmental units within the PRMO. The Administrative Director, PRMO coordinates with other PRMO Senior Leadership staff to ensure that all operational revenue management functions are aligned and optimized to meet or exceed patient requirements, maximize cash collections, and minimize cost to collect. The PRMO Administrative Director may assume certain responsibilities in the absence of the PRMO Chief Operating Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Ensure that cross-departmental operations are optimized and aligned with all other operations within PRMO and Duke Medicine. Act as the primary operating officer for multiple functional units within PRMO, managing all day to day operations, budget, and personnel matters. Assist in setting the strategic direction of the Duke Medicine revenue cycle and identifying areas of continuous improvement in conjunction with the PRMO Chief Operating Officer. Develop strategies across functional departments to exceed PRMO cash projection, reduce days in accounts receivable, and denials. Ensure staff members are adequately trained across departments and coordinate this training with overall PRMO training objectives. Ensure compliance with state and federal law, compliance plans, HIPAA, JCAHO guidelines; ensure that internal controls and policies and procedures across departments are consistently tested and developed and align these controls to optimize the overall control environment of the PRMO. Identify new technologies to enhance PRMO operations and be the primary business champion for new technology implementations within the PRMO. Develop strategies to reduce cost to collect across functional departments. Identify areas to improve customer service and enhance patient centricity within the revenue cycle. Work to create a positive work culture within cross-departmental teams and align this work with other PRMO initiatives. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Bachelors degree required. Masters degree preferred.

Experience

Ten years of progressive management and/or consulting experience in a healthcare environment is required, of which 5 of those years should be in management of people or projects. Big Four or other consulting experience preferred.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

CPA/CMA, CPAM, CCAM, or FACHE preferred. Certifications in patient access or patient accounting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Technical: Advanced understanding of all revenue cycle functions and interrelationships. Experienced in budgeting. Non-Technical: Strong leadership presence and skills. Proven capabilities in building and leading teams. Ability to work with others in a cooperative, collaborative manner. Strong written and oral communication skills.
