General Description of the Job Class

The Vice President (VP), Ambulatory, will spearhead the development and execution of cutting-edge programs aimed at enhancing patient experiences and optimizing outcomes across Duke Health's ambulatory platform.

The VP is responsible for the development and oversight of high quality, cost-effective, and integrated programs among multiple clinical or non- clinical support departments to ensure success of Duke Health's ambulatory platform.

The VP, will work collaboratively with leadership of clinical departments, the School of Medicine, and Duke University Health System administration in an interdisciplinary, matrix manner to develop and implement well-balanced programs.

The VP will exercise leadership and management responsibility over all functions within this management portfolio ensuring efficient services that are designed to meet the needs of patients, physicians, the public, and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

1. Strategic Collaboration: Foster effective partnerships between clinical departments and affiliated services to ensure a seamless, integrated approach to healthcare delivery. Collaborate closely with leadership across clinical, academic, and administrative domains to align programs with Duke Health's strategic goals.

2. Innovative Development: Drive innovation by championing a highly- matrixed approach to service development. Display a keen ability to navigate Duke Health's decision-making structures while fostering a culture of creativity and adaptability.

3. Market Expansion Develop and implement robust business strategies that support expanded market share and elevate overall performance. Serve as Duke Health's ambassador to the external market, identifying opportunities for strategic partnerships.

4. Operational Excellence: Provide leadership and oversight for all functions within the ambulatory services portfolio, ensuring the delivery of efficient, patient-centered care. Analyze data and collaborate with leadership teams to optimize resource utilization, reduce costs, and enhance revenue streams.

5. Financial Management: Coordinate budgetary planning and review processes, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities. Monitor expenditures and reconcile budget allocations to drive fiscal responsibility and sustainability.

6. Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for process enhancement and performance optimization. Lead initiatives to enhance quality, safety, and patient satisfaction across ambulatory services.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work requires organizational, analytical and communication skills acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program in a business or healthcare-related field.

A master's degree in a business or healthcare-related field is strongly preferred.

Experience

Requires ten years of progressive management experience in a healthcare environment.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Proven capabilities in building and leading teams.

Ability to work with others in a cooperative, collaborative manner.

Strong written and oral communication skills.
