General Description of the Job Class

Establishes an area of clinical expertise in Speech Pathology or Audiology within the Division and serves as a clinical resource in specialty area across the Division. Under direction of Assistant Director and in collaboration with Clinical Coordinators, creates and implements evidenced based and state of the art service programs and clinical services in the area of expertise that are consistent with Division standards.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Maintains clinical productivity and/or produces a quantity of work that is consistent with Divisional administrative productivity goals and maintains ongoing communication with clinical staff, other Clinical Coordinators, Assistant Directors, Director, and Division Chief. Establishes local, regional, and/or national recognition and becomes sought out as a resource based on reputation in the area of expertise.

Participates in peer review that involves the development of new programs in the area of expertise and completes performance improvement project pertaining to the area of expertise. Maintains open communication and collaboration with Administrative Staff to assure that policies, procedures, and other activities are consistently implemented and support Division standards during the implementation of new programs. Works collaboratively with Clinical Coordinators in their assigned clinical cluster area regarding the development new programs in the area of expertise. Along with the Assistant Director, collaborates with other divisions, departments, professionals, and other stakeholders to assure the implementation of new programs.

In consultation with Clinical Coordinator, provides input to Administrative Staff regarding budgeting, purchasing, and annual objectives pertaining to the area of expertise. Assists Administrative Staff with identification of new staff and Divisional recruitment activities as requested for developing new programs. Recommends supplies and equipment to Administrative Staff, particularly regarding new technology and software that applies to the area of expertise, which may be needed for the development of new programs . Assists Assistant Director in the identification, development, and implementation of marketing and program development opportunities within the area of expertise. Provides input for ongoing development and implementation of policies and procedures in the area of expertise that guide and support the provision of services

Provides advanced training and mentoring in the area of expertise for staff across clinical clusters and local/ regional training and mentoring in the area of expertise external to DUHS. Presents locally, regionally, and/or nationally on topics and demonstrates and maintains additional training/education in the area of expertise. Remains current in state of the art literature, equipment, and/or practice techniques within the area of expertise.

Independently maintains a clinical caseload in designated clinical cluster area. Provides evidence based evaluation and treatment to diverse, medically challenging patient populations and quality service delivery techniques that facilitate optimum services to meet patient needs being sensitive to patient???s age, social, cultural, educational and vocational background.

Provides appropriate written and/or verbal education on communication and/or swallowing disorders to patients, families, and professionals. Completes required documentation accurately and within the designated time frame which may include report writing, billing, and/ or professional education database.

Works collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team as well as with Division colleagues to promote best patient care standards. Takes initiative to remain current in clinical practice through lectures, literature, and other educational opportunities.

Organizes daily schedule to prioritize responsibilities in a self- directed manner including the integration of meetings, responsibilities, or tasks into schedule without negative impact on patient care or productivity. Provides educational opportunities relevant to clinical practice which may include inservices, external presentations, lunch and learn, or support groups with the input of the Clinical Coordinator

When requested, serves as a mentor for new staff, clinical fellows, students, or student observers and provides opportunities for student observation.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Graduate of an accredited program in Speech Language Pathology with a Masters degree. Graduate of an accredited program in Audiology with a Masters degree or Clinical Doctorate (AuD) if degree conferred after 2007.

Experience

Previous medical setting experience preferred, although other relevant clinical experience considered.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Current NC licensure to practice Speech Language Pathology or Audiology (license to match license concentration) Current Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech / Language Pathology or Audiology (certificate to match degree concentration) or Board Certified in Audiology (ABOA) or New Graduate Privilege License (Temporary License) in Audiology issued by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists.

For Privilege License, full license is expected within one month after completing supervised year of training.
