General Description of the Job Class

Exercise management responsibility over the Duke University Private Diagnostic Clinic.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Responsible for negotiating and executing contracts on behalf of the Practice Plan.

Responsible for establishing and managing all budgets of the Practice Plan. Monitors Practice Plan revenue and expenses at institutional and department levels and provides financial reports about overall Plan activities. Recommends appropriate measures to maximize Plan revenues.

Responsible for the coordination of all strategic planning and marketing efforts of the Practice Plan. Develop annual operating plans which establish clear goals and objectives relative to developing the professional staff, market share and financial performance.

Responsible for the operation and management of some/all ambulatory care activities of the Practice Plan.

Responsible for the detailed planning and construction of any facilities required by the Practice Plan. Represents Practice Plan physicians in Hospital and Medical School planning for physician office space.

Develops the conceptual design for improved physician and management information systems, data collection and database accessibility to commonly required information essential for operation and policy decisions.

Recruit, train and retain a management team and administrative staff to meet the needs of the Practice Plan. Develop the conceptual design of a standard performance appraisal system to measure the productivity and contribution of Practice Plan employees, identifying training needs, effective utilization of employee talents and providing a basis for career development.

Lead development of a primary care and-ambulatory delivery network. Oversee managed care contracting function and actively participate in key negotiations.

Lead development of practitioner standards related to staffing and productivity. Assist in the review and revision of faculty compensation policies to ensure equity in managed care market.

Develop and maintain a compliance program for all applicable federal and state statutes and regulations.

Plans, organizes, evaluate, and manages clinical activities in accordance with the objectives of the organization. Identifies key process in place, and needed, to support effective clinical operations, supporting a single delivery system. Where possible, consolidates related processes to accommodate multiple functions.

Leads the planning and development of new services offered by the Faculty Practice including program analysis and funding.

Represent the organization to various public, governmental and external agencies,promoting positive interaction with the community and establishing communications and public relations programs.

Provides verbal and written reports on a regular basis to senior executive staff, board, and/or committee(s) regarding overall activities.

Direct various personnel functions including, but not restricted to hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Masters degree in business or a health-related field is required

Experience

Ten years of experience is required, with at least five years in management in a health care organization.
