General Description of the Job Class

Manage and coordinate the clinical, operational, research, and maintenance activities of the Duke Hyperbaric Center.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Coordinate the inspection and testing of the hyperbaric/hypobaric chambers and related equipment for safe and proper functioning. Ensure the safety of all patients and personnel in the chambers. Ensure the Hyperbaric Center is in compliance with all legal and regulatory standards.

Coordinate the maintenance, repair and update of the chamber mechanical systems, support, equipment, analyzers and laboratory instrumentation. Coordinate modification of equipment so it can be safely used in the chambers at increased or decreased pressures.

Member of Operational and Safety Committee, which addresses all safety issues related to the operation of the Hyperbaric Center.

Provide assistance, instruction and consultation to faculty, staff and researchers for the resolution of special problems. Train, direct and manage activities of other personnel associated with hyperbaric/hypobaric chamber patient care and research tasks.

Manage various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules. Develop and implement Performance Improvement activities. Coordinate in-house as well as external training for all personnel.

Plan and schedule work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing for subsequent performance of duties. Review and monitor staffing levels and productivity. Facilitate the team process including the interdisciplinary communication and negotiation skills. Assist teams in development of team goals and standards; evaluate the educational and competency needs of staff.

Prepare and monitor the budget components for the Duke Hyperbaric Center. Perform analysis of financial information, reporting trends and patterns; prepare corrective action plan as necessary. Assist with determination of fiscal requirements and in the preparation of the annual budget; monitor and verify expenditure of budget funds.

Responsible for the efficient management of all computer resources including management of the patient database.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Work requires a Bachelors degree in a biological science.

Experience

Work requires 10 years of related hyperbaric experience sufficient to acquire competency in clinical, operational, maintenance and research support inherent in the Duke Hyperbaric Chamber Complex. At least 5 years of experience in a supervisory capacity.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology Certification required.
