General Description of the Job Class

The VP Finance position will have significant responsibility managing an assigned segment of the financial operations of DUHS. This position will report to the Sr. VP, CFO, and Treasurer of DUHS. The scope of this position can be defined in many ways including size of operation supported measured by FTEs or revenue, level of organizational and/or financial risk managed, and exposure to responsibility for customers external to DUHS.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

The position will require leadership of internal finance and operational teams as well as driving changes as necessary with other Duke entities or affiliates including Duke University, the DU Schools of Medicine and Nursing, and the Private Diagnostic Clinic (PDC). The position will advise the Sr. VP of emerging risks and opportunities and develop/propose creative and thoughtful management strategies. Expected customers/peers/colleagues can include entity Presidents, the Senior Leadership Team of DUHS, and other Vice Presidents and Associate/Assistant Vice Presidents throughout DUHS, Duke University, and the PDC. The position will provide informed and accurate financial guidance/information and will advocate on the behalf of finance to protect the integrity of DUHS financial systems and controls and maintain the internal reputation and integrity of Corporate Finance

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or related field is required. Master's degree in Business, Finance, Hospital Administration or related field is preferred

Experience

Ten years of progressive leadership experience is required. Relevant health care finance experience is preferred.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

CPA preferred
