General Description of the Job Class

This position will provide comprehensive legal counsel to the DHIP administration including regulatory coding and compliance, physician contracting and affiliations, and other laws affecting physician practices.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Furnish high level of professional legal service to the Duke Health Integrated Practice.

Reporting to the DHIP General Counsel, provide legal support on physician affiliations, health care transactions, and regulatory compliance.

Advise the DHIP on compliance with state and federal health care laws and regulations, including Stark, Anti-Kickback, and HIPAA.

Serve as an active participant with key DHIP leaders in advising on strategic direction of the DHIP.

Assist in drafting and reviewing contracts and other legal documents for compliance with state and federal laws as well as DHIP and Duke University policies.

Confer with DHIP and Duke University employees on matters involving legal interpretation and decisions related to operations and policy questions.

Engage and manage outside counsel to represent the DHIP.

Staff key work groups and committees in areas of practice as assigned.

Provide guidance and assistance to the PDC General Counsel and other DHIP attorneys in a highly collaborative fashion.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Juris Doctor from an American Bar Association accredited law school.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years experience as an attorney.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina.
