General Description of the Job Class

Responsible for the creation and implementation of internal communications plans, strategies, tactics, timelines, budgets, and key performance indicators to support entity business objectives and priorities. This position will be responsible for the regular monitoring of communications plans and tactics to ensure maximum effectiveness. In addition, this position will be responsible for integrating with DUHS Corporate Communications as well as Duke Health communicators to support broad organizational communication strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Assess and respond to entity communications needs and develop communication strategies, campaigns and tactics.

Translate communication needs and corresponding research and analytics into appropriate communication strategies, campaigns and tactics

Lead the creation of communication materials and campaigns to support tactical implementation of communication strategies

Serve as editor for departmental newsletters and contribute content to Duke Health internal communications channels

Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums, including the intranet, email, and social media

Engage with departmental leadership to understand their communications requirements and advise them on communications issues

Translate ideas to creative teams and designers

Draft messages or scripts for entity leaders for presentation to employees or other pertinent audiences in written or spoken form Support the concepting, planning and execution of communications campaigns including print, digital and video

Support face-to-face meetings for entity leadership, including town halls and board meetings

Manage community relations outreach activities

Ensure consistency and alignment with Duke Health messaging across internal channels and apply brand design standards and positioning to communications material

Work collaboratively with all entity communicators to maximize effectiveness of communications projects and participate on appropriate DUHS communicator committees

Use analytics to track results and report them back to departmental leaders and appropriate communicator committees

Execute all components of communications plans within target budget and timelines managing any vendors or other assigned staff toward that goal

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field is required.

Experience

Four years of related experience in communications, marketing communications or marketing with demonstrated experience in driving the implementation of strategic communications plans and tactics.

Work experience should include participation in communications plan development and expertise in tactics that range from digital content and collateral material creation and development, to highly-targeted, audience-specific initiatives.
