General Description of the Job Class

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Human Resources is a key thought leader with a strategic mindset who serves as a trusted advisor and partner to the CHRO to drive human resources initiatives that support the overall mission and strategic direction of DUHS. The Assist VP provides executive-level leadership and guidance to DUHS HR operations and centers of expertise. The Assist VP strives to develop, practice, and promote a culture of customer service, continuous improvement, and best practices while designing/modifying policies, practices and programs that impact the life cycle of DUHS employees.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

- Collaborates with executive leadership to define DUHS long-term mission and goals focused on transforming the employee experience, people processes, and service delivery.

- Navigate a complex, highly matrixed environment with proven capabilities at integrating and aligning practices across distinct organizational structures.

- Drive strategies functional area to strengthen capabilities and promote career growth.

- Serve as a change agent, with proven change management knowledge, skills and experiences to support the unique and changing needs of the organization.

- Prepare business cases, operating plans, and presentation materials to advance key people and operational strategies.

- Monitor workforce trends and apply strong analytical/problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex data and strategies into simple, actionable recommendations to support short- and long-term workforce objectives.

- Identify key performance indicators for functional area that drive insight and inform decision-making and assesses success and market competitiveness based on these metrics.

- Provide engaged and effective human capital support and appropriately embed diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B) initiatives to foster a diverse and inclusive environment that enables all team members to thrive, feel valued and be heard.

- Possess a strong understanding of performance management/coaching to ensure high levels of service and performance that enable a culture that is accountable, productive, and engaged to promote a healthy working environment.

- Build the capabilities of and mentor direct and indirect reports to effectively align talent skills and competencies with organizational needs.

- Cultivate a team culture that upholds innovation, experimentation, lifelong learning, adaptability, institutional and personal evolution, and cultural dexterity.

- Drafts and oversees staffing budget in functional area

- Participates in professional development and networking, conferences and events.

- Remain informed about healthcare regulations and ensure compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other federal and state laws, regulations, and requirements as applicable.

- Performs other duties as assigned.

Leadership Attributes:

- Proven leadership skills including clear goal setting, prioritization, and ability to lead a team in a complex environment.

- Highly developed project management skills.

- Experience in complex healthcare delivery systems with a focus on outpatient, ambulatory, physician practices, a plus.

- Expert and broad knowledge of end-to-end talent operations and management

- Expert communication skills with a diversity of communication styles; savvy communicator both orally and in writing

- Excellent leadership, critical thinking and coaching skills that foster collaboration and development across and within teams

- Experience with Merger & Acquisitions as well integration planning / implementation, a plus

- Must be a highly motivated, innovative, change oriented strategic thinker with a high EQ and outstanding executive presence

- Must be able to connect with and demonstrate empathy for teammates at all levels along with significant influence and negotiation skills

- Strong organizational and decision-making skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities, and interpersonal skills.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience, Master's degree preferred.

Experience

8 years of progressive human resources related experience with 2 of the years in a leadership role.
