General Description of the Job Class

The Vice President of Business Development will be a key player in the identification and execution of DUHS and Duke Health's potential new partnerships including acquisitions, joint ventures, and other relationships involving traditional and non-traditional. The purpose of this role is help DUHS and Duke Health develop in size and scope through innovative and dynamic partnerships as well as new markets. This role is critical in driving new growth and partnering for the successful integration of new entities and partnerships into DUHS and Duke Health. The Vice President of Business Development will work closely with DUHS and SOM senior leadership to identify opportunities, negotiate terms, and execute transactions that align with DUHS's mission and strategic goals.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Innovation with DUHS and Duke Health Stakeholders: As DUHS and DH, work to develop models for providing complex care outside of the Triangle, participle and collaborate in the development of new ways to deliver/provide complex care alongside our clinical leaders, senior leaders and those impacted by this work. Lead in identifying new opportunities that create productive, innovative, value-added, and profitable additions to the existing complement of DUHS clinical services.

Thought Leadership: Contribute and help implement strategies for acquisitions, joint ventures, and partnerships to expand DUHS's footprint and capabilities. Knowledgeable of industry information to understand healthcare and non-healthcare trends and technologies.

Deal Execution/Project Management: Lead the end-to-end process of transactions, including due diligence, financial analysis, negotiation, and integration planning. Collaborate in business integration with various team members to understand licensure, staffing, zoning, governmental and other requirements and/or restrictions related to satellite operations, multispecialty ambulatory care centers, joint ventures, and any other new relationships or ventures. Create and manage project work plans and timelines on multiple projects; lead projects independently; frame issues succinctly and appropriately in order to develop and/or oversee an effective analytical approach; produce high- quality deliverables.

Collaboration: Work closely with the DUHS Senior Leadership and where appropriate the SOM leaderships, legal team, and other key leaders to gain collaboration and buy in with new expansion opportunities. Responsible for smooth integration of legal and financial review of proposed business engagements to ensure all aspects of return and risk are appropriately heard and vetted.

Market Analysis: Linkages with strategic planning to collaborate on market research to identify potential targets and assess the competitive landscape.

Financial Oversight: Coordination with the Financial Business Intelligence team for financial modeling and valuation analysis to support transaction decisions. Developing specific proposals and/or pro forma financial analyses to enable meaningful evaluations of potential joint ventures and/or other partnership arrangements.

Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, stakeholders, and advisors.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, or a related field.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, preferably within the healthcare industry.
