General Description of the Job Class

The Director of Quality & Analytics for Duke University Health System (DUHS) has the responsibility, accountability and strategic direction for the quality & analytics programs at DUHS and as such provides the leadership in developing a culture of quality in identifying opportunities and initiatives to enhance quality efforts. The Director develops strategic and operational programs that support acute care quality efforts to ensure DUHS continues to be innovative and world renowned in its approaches to Quality.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Manage the acute care quality programs including setting program goals, staffing, alignment with system and entities, budget and execution of work.

Lead a multidisciplinary team coordinating analytics and performance improvement programs related to public reporting, quality and safety analytics and patient experience for the health system.

Deliver projects and data narratives/reports to the acute care executive team, clinicians, and thought leaders.

Public Reporting of Quality - Oversee and direct the research, abstraction and submission and internal reporting of performance for the public reporting of quality initiatives. This includes the CMS quality programs, TJC, Leapfrog, and USNews helping to maintain requirements and top rankings. This person will need to stay abreast of these types of programs throughout the industry and advise Senior Leadership on emerging issues. They would then be responsible for the design and execution of programs to collect, submit and report new metrics for all acute care for DUHS.

Quality Improvement Support - Develop and manage a comprehensive surveillance process to routinely evaluate performance of quality, safety, and patient experience metrics. Facilitate the development, alignment and integration of annual Duke quality priorities and the annual performance improvement plans for Duke University Health System acute care entities. Coordinate and manage health system wide process improvement projects as aligned with organizational priorities impacting quality and safety measures, creating efficiencies, reducing variation and significantly enhancing patient outcomes. Manage relevant acute care hospital executive quality committees and coordinate activities.

Clinical Metrics - Serve as the central point of contact related to internal reporting of clinical metrics, to include ongoing support for quality and safety for acute care entities within the Health System and Board related reporting of quality and safety metrics for acute care for DUHS.

Clinical Benchmarking - Provide oversight for the submission of data to clinical programs (Vizient) and for directing the use of the data to support annual goal setting and performance improvement targets for quality and safety for acute care for DUHS.

Credentialing support - Provide oversight for the delivery of data to the various credentialing bodies for acute care for DUHS.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Master's degree in healthcare or related field is required.

Experience

Minimum of 7 years of experience, with 3 years in a supervisory role.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong analytical and communication skills

Strong computer skills to include database analysis
