General Description of the Job Class

To direct and maintain the hospital's risk management and compliance program. The Risk Manager is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and directing the Risk Management Program to maintain an environment conducive to patient safety, to prevent and/or minimize losses associated with identifiable risks, and to minimize and prevent claims of general and professional liability against the hospital. The Risk Manager assists in directing the Patient Safety Program, including: facilitating systems analysis to promote and improve patient safety, conducting and facilitating educational programs based upon identified needs, and compliance with regulatory, State/Federal laws/regulations and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education

Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Bachelor's degree in Nursing or combination Nursing/Business Administration or other acceptable degree (or actively pursuing course of study). MSN preferred.

Experience

Minimum of three years Risk Management experience in an acute care facility with demonstrated knowledge TJC, State Licensure, and CMS regulations, and of malpractice and claims prevention/management processes are preferred.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification

Current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina. Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) preferred.
