Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of duties involved in the maintenance, repair and operation of the Duke University Marine Laboratory Research Vessel; stand lookout and winch operation watches.

Work Performed

Perform a variety of duties involved in the maintenance and repair of deck equipment, handling gear and running gear; break out, rig, overhaul and stow equipment as directed.

Stand watch at sea to advise deck officer of impending hazards; sound depth of water; steer vessel as directed.

Assist in launching and retrieving over-the-side scientific equipment, operate winches as directed.

Chip, scrap, brush and paint fixtures, decks, superstructure and sides of vessel.

Swab or wash decks to remove salt, oil, dirt and debris.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
