Perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair activities aboard the Duke University/North Carolina Oceanographic Consortium Research Vessel as directed by the Chief Mate.
Perform a variety of tasks in maintenance and repair activities aboard the research vessel to include swabbing and washing of decks; chipping, cleaning and painting of fixtures, decks, superstructure and sides of vessel as directed by the Chief Mate.
Provide for operation and maintenance of boats, cables, anchors, cordage and running and standing rigging.
Rig and ensure safe usage of deck and over-the-side apparatus.
Operate winches as required, and assist in the launching and retrieval of over-the-side scientific equipment.
Stand watch following standard procedure while at sea to advise deck officer of impending hazards. Inspect equipment for safe and proper operation; refer mechanical maintenance problems to the Chief Engineer for repair.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein as directed by the Chief Mate.
