Occupational Summary

Perform and coordinate a variety of technical and non-technical duties related to the operation of the Biological Sciences building necessary to ensure an quality environment for teaching, research and animal care.

Work Performed

Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the building, security, internal and external moving and storage of items for the Biological Sciences departments; act as building contact for shutdowns and other University Facilities communications.

Maintain liaison with appropriate departmental representatives throughout Duke related to building maintenance, security, moving and storage and other related issues; work with outside contractors/service workers and building occupants for repairs and renovations.

Fabricate experimental apparatus for teaching, research, and animal care using wood and metal working tools.

Manage special storeroom operations such as conducting inventories, pricing, dispensing alcohol, pick-up and deliveries, and transporting items to and from storage.

Assist with special technical projects at the Zoology field station and other departmental issues.

Coordinate office and laboratory rearrangements as required.

Manage student work shop; maintain inventory of supplies and tools; train students on techniques and use of machinery and equipment; maintain safety standards. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires the ability to understand and follow instructions generally acquired through a high school education.

 

Experience:

Work requires the ability to plan and coordinate activities related to building management generally acquired through two years of related experience.
