Supervise and participate in the analysis, service, repair and design modification of ultralow temperature cryogenic refrigeration systems to ensure optimum operating conditions and procedures.
Supervise and participate in the analysis, service, repair and design modification to all brands of ultralow temperature cryogenic refrigeration systems including freezers, flash freezers, freeze driers, liquid nitrogen storage freezers, blood plasma and bonemarrow units, and liquid nitrogen back-up units to ensure optimum operation. Analyze system problems; determine cause of malfunction or system failure, advise principal investigator of corrective action and carry out approved maintenance, repair, or design modification in accordance with investigators' instructions and maintenance schedules. Provide cost estimates of repairs and/or modifications of equipment and/or systems; maintain liaison with manufacturer, local parts supplier, and principal investigator to ensure most efficient and economical means of repair. Prepare and maintain a preventive maintenance program to minimize the down time of any cryogenic refrigeration system and/or unit to provide optimum service; design and construct control systems and/or alarm devices designed to operate cryogenic equipment and to provided notification of systems failure.
Maintain an up-to-date library of equipment manuals, keeping abreast of new equipment or related modifications.
Confer with principal investigators to ensure that all units are properly labeled according to content so that appropriate precautions for exposure to biohazardous materials may be taken.
Plan and schedule work ensuring appropriate assignment of staff and availability of material and equipment.
Provide appropriate training to personnel as required.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Education/Training: | Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a high school education plus 2 years of technical training in ultra low temperature refrigeration. |
Experience: | Position requires an extensive knowledge of cryogenic refrigeration systems normally acquired through 5 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of refrigeration systems including 3 years in cryogenic refrigeration. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE |
