Occupational Summary

Perform specialized mechanical duties in the repair, inspection and routine maintenance of heavy and light automotive equipment.

Work Performed

Perform specialized mechanical duties in the repair, inspection and maintenance of diesel and gasoline powered buses, trucks, cars and other power driven equipment.

Machine parts for automotive equipment and machinery according to specifications.

Prepare necessary records pertaining to work performed.

Assist in maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies and materials. Follow a predetermined preventative maintenance program on buses, sanitation equipment, trucks, cars and other power driven equipment.

Provide technical guidance and direction to lower level personnel. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires an educational background normally acquired through a high school education with course work in skilled crafts or trades. Must possess or be able to obtain air conditioning certification. Strong background in pneumatics, electrical schematics, use of multimeter, and knowledge of "S" cam and wedge type brake systems. Must be able to read and interpret hydraulic schematics.

 

Experience:

Work requires a practical knowledge of heavy and light automotive mechanical equipment maintenance normally acquired through 4 years of experience with heavy buses, trucks, or other diesel powered equipment.
