Occupational Summary

Perform complex clerical accounting tasks in maintaining financial records and processing related data; review work of lower level employees.

Work Performed

Perform complex clerical accounting tasks in maintaining financial records and processing related data including examining checks, vouchers and other documents for accuracy; make appropriate calculations, post data to journals and ledgers; make verfications and run trial balances. Maintain accounts receivable ledger; operate a posting machine and various other office equipment.

Compile various financial statements and reports involving considerable arithmetical computations; reconcile accounts with IBM statements; make adjusting entries in journals and ledgers according to standard procedures.

Prepare special accounting reports for administrative utilization. Maintain daily log and control of all ledgers.

Process regular and special invoices.

Reconcile accounts payable checking accounts with IBM statements.

Interface with departmental personnel to obtain information to verify or support financial records and to answer inquiries concerning accounting procedures. Review work of lower level employees; assist in the training of new accounting clerks; make work assignments.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires knowledge of basic mathematical and clerical principles generally acquired through a high school education.

 

Experience:

Work generally requires 2 years of experience in an accounting setting to acquire a general knowledge of the accepted clerical accounting practices involved in processing forms, reconciling accounts and compiling basic financial statements.
