Occupational Health Technician will perform a variety of duties associated with the placement and surveillance activities of EOHW under the supervision of the MD and guidance of the RN.
Responsible for healthcare delivery analytics and reporting, assisting EOHW clinical staff with vaccinations and screenings, and function as a team leaders to implement Duke Health-wide employee health campaigns.
Annual Audiograms/Hearing Conservation Program-Plan and schedule annual audiograms for the departments in hearing conservation program. Review safety reports to determine areas with low compliance. Communicate with managers to determine scheduling needs. Calibrate equipment prior to use. Update procedure manual.
TB Respirator Fit Testing Program- Plan and schedule Fit Testing at Duke Hospital and offsite. Prepare and calibrate equipment daily prior to use. Responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and accurately fit testing for N95 masks for tuberculosis/SARS. Review safety reports to determine areas with low compliance. Record keeping/maintaining fit testing schedule. Communicate with managers. Draft operating procedure for fit testing program.
Blood Body Fluid program- Enter BBF Epinet forms daily. Scan to safety. File forms in medical records. Responsible for all follow-up to ensure employees with infectious disease exposures are complaint at 3 months. Send email reminders to employee and manager of follow- up labs needed. Notify manager when overdue for follow-up labs. Assemble BBF packets.
AO16's/SRS- Review electronic incident reports daily in the pm. Call employees and document in agility the incident/ treatment of the job injury. Schedule appointments in clinic as needed.
Meningitis Vaccine Project- Review safety reports for Duke, Duke Regional and Duke Raleigh micro labs to verify compliance status. At Duke, work with OESO and lab manager to ensure department compliance list of employees is accurate. Provide Bexero/Truemba vaccines to micro lab personnel. Ensure declinations signed and entered into agility when applicable. Maintain records and work with Duke OESO safety to track employee compliance.
Vaccine Project- Review safety reports to determine vaccine compliance for Duke healthcare employees with patient contact. Work with OESO to determine the departments/ or hospital units that need "flagging" by safety. Communicate with department manager and safety prior to turning on vaccine requirements for departments/ units. Verify STIX each employee's vaccine status and correct entry errors if needed. Work with safety/ update safety database as needed.
Influenza Program- Serve as team-lead for annual flu program. Present a PowerPoint of the program to all EOHW staff at monthly meeting prior to annual flu kickoff. Coordinate flu clinics both onsite and offsite. Plan and schedule staffing. Arrange and train new staff prior to being a vaccinator. Prepare schedule for all sites. Maintain an inventory of supplies to ensure adequate stock. Order vaccine and supplies, verify receipt. Monitor and answer all flu inquiries coming to the flu mailbox promptly throughout the day. Ensure all emails and telephone calls have a response by end of shift daily. Send medical exemption requests to the MD team and notify employee the exemption determination from the flu team. Experience with Qualtrics survey software a plus.
Cough Monitoring program- Follow-up by email with healthcare employees on program.
Covid 19-Team- Work with a wide range of health partners and health coordinators. Will use Red Cap software. Work may include partnering with DHTS maintaining the Covid 19 Red Cap Qualtrics project.
Drug screening program- Maintain Certification as forensic drug screen collector. Perform preplacement and random drug screens.
Recordkeeping/Data Analysis using excel or alternate analysis programs. Complete a comprehensive monthly clinic statistics report for leadership. Report to staff updates on all programs at monthly staff meetings.
Clinic Supplies- Order and maintain clinical supplies
Other duties: Administrative duties- answer telephones and greet patients. Perform phlebotomy, TB respiratory fit testing, EKGs, vision screening, vaccine administration, TB Testing, color blind screening. Assist medical and nursing staff in a variety of tasks by providing support in clinic during busy new hire season.
Education/Training: | 1. EMT- Complete a state approved accredited EMT education program and be certified as a North Carolina EMT. (OR) 2. Licensed Practical Nurse- Graduation from an accredited program and licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina. (OR) 3. Certified Medical Assistant-Graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). High school or GED graduation required. Certification by AAMA or AMT required. Certification by AAMA preferred. College degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred. |
Experience: | None required above minimum education/certification requirements. 1-3 years relevant experience preferred. |
Skills: | Strong written and oral communication skills. Self-directed with ability to adapt to a changing environment. Strong problem solving with ability to prioritize, planning, dependability, detail- oriented and highly organized, knowledge of medical terminology. Experience with Word, PowerPoint, Excel programs desired. Experience with Qualtrics survey software preferred. |
